Goods-thinking vs. tree-thinking
While it has become increasingly clear that the Tree of Life hypothesis has limitations in its ability to describe the evolution of all evolving entities on the planet, there has been a marked reluctance to move away from the tree-based language. Ironically, while modifying the idea of the Tree of Life to the extent that it is only very distantly related to its original descriptions, there has ...
متن کاملPRP in Facial Rejuvenation (Facts vs. Hypothesis)
Ageing is accompanied by a decline in the homeostatic and regenerative capacity of all tissues and organs. Biostimulation for new collagen, elastin, extrafibrillar matrix and vascular network formation has the potential to restructure the skin and reverse the signs of aging [1]. In facial rejuvenation, dermal stimulation and augmentation represent the main facial target in aesthetic medicine. T...

متن کاملEvolving Culture vs Local Minima
We propose a theory that relates difficulty of learning in deep architectures to culture and language. It is articulated around the following hypotheses: (1) learning in an individual human brain is hampered by the presence of effective local minima; (2) this optimization difficulty is particularly important when it comes to learning higher-level abstractions, i.e., concepts that cover a vast a...
متن کاملIntuitive vs. Analytical Thinking: Four Theoretical Frameworks
Research in mathematics education often consists of interpreting students’ performance on mathematical tasks, in particular their misconceptions, or nonnormative responses. In such situations it is natural to compare students’ intuitive vs. analytical ways of thinking, bearing in mind that these terms need to be specified more precisely. In this paper, data on one such task is used to compare f...
